| Super Stan (pronounced with a slight lisp, if you please) came to us in June of 1997. He was 3 months old and came in as a foster. I knew the minute he came through the door that he would never leave my side. He is my soulmate. I did pretend for a while that I was trying to find him a home, "but no one was quite good enough" for Stanley. Mark finally gave in and said he could stay. Stanley trained with me and is wonderful in obedience, but once we hit the ring...forget it. He gets too nervous and has even done the entire off lead heel by himself across the ring from me at the judges commands! The judge thought that was a blast...too bad it NQ'd us :) Another time, on the sits and downs, he led the majority of the class around the ring at a gallop, out the gate and all over the field. He started the riot and the rest thought it a great idea! Thus, he no longer competes in obedience. Stanley also dislikes lure coursing, he hates the dirt, mud and smell of the fields... he has sat on the sidelines a few times, and enjoys the other dogs, but do not ask him to run it himself! Stanley is one of the fanciest dogs I have met, there are those of us who feel certain he was Liberace in his past life... He has some sort of weird passion for fancy clothing and has a favorite coat. A huge rust colored wooly coat, we call it his Pimp Daddy Coat. His other flamboyant passions are grooming, both dog and human. He comes to work at the grooming salon with me and leans into the tub for every bath. Also stands on the grooming table (along side the dog being groomed) nosing around for each cut... When I braid my own hair, he stands with his front legs on my shoulders staring intently as I braid each side... Honestly, he is one odd duck, but we LOVE him! |
